The Humminbird 998c SI Combo features a brilliant color, wide-screen 480V x 800H 8-Inch display, 83/200KHZ dual beam sonar with 1000 Watts of transmit power, in addition to a 455KHz Side Imaging sonar. The unit has GPS chartplotting with external antenna and advanced Fishing System capabilities. Rugged construction and ease of use make Humminbird fishfinders a favorite of anglers worldwide. The built-in Contour XD chart covers the contiguous U.S.A. coastline and inland lakes and rivers. On the coast, this clearly shows features as small as canals, and many coastal navigation lights. Inland, the Contour XD features virtually all recreational lakes and rivers, plus hundreds of thousands of small lakes that don’t appear on other charts. In other words, your lake is likely to be there! Internal memory has a capacity of 2,750 waypoints, 45 routes, and 50 tracks of 20,000 points each. Optional network modules include an external GPS antenna, WeatherSense barometer, wireless sonar link, Cannon Link for control of downrigger, Interlink for multiple units, and radar. Sonar features include Freeze Frame, instant image update, real time sonar window, selective Fish ID, echo enhancement, screen snapshot to SD card, split screen zoom, True Arch technology, and wide/narrow cone split screen. The user-friendly technology includes custom digital readouts, large digit view, quick disconnect mounting, triplog, and X-press menu system. He has been mentioning for some time how he would love to have one but can not see paying almost $2000 for one. He owns three other Humminbird Fish Finders that were mounted to our 21 foot bass boat. This unit has replaced everything and anything he uses for finding fish and GPS signals.It was easy to install. He mounted it on the dash with the RAM Mounting Systems RAM-D-111U-C heavy duty RAM Universal Marine Electronic Mount. It sits securely in place with no worries of it taking a plunge into the waters. The Navigation Bundle is a must! It includes all four regions of the US as well as the waters near Canada. The navigation on screen is easily learned and used. I only have a few hours on this unit on my outboard. The only downside so far is that I see alot of prop wash on screen while underway. I installed the sending unit per the instructions so it may need some tweaking. I was about to send the unit in ( Humminbird service is outstanding ) when a new update came and after restoring the defaults and installing the new update VIOLA! everything worked beautifully. I should have quit while I was ahead. I installed the most recent update restoring the defaults as required and TOTALLY lost the Side Imaging - both sides. I'm in the process of trying the suggested fixes before I send the unit in for repairs but have had trouble with my Powerwinch ( see my review ) so have not launched it since I tried the fixes. I'm probably going to send the unit in even if it does work this time just to make sure there isn't anything inherently wrong with the unit. Oh one wierd qwirk.
